Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered numerous other marked cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state early analysis show the substance was probably human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the residents for details.
A senior political figure stated the attack made him without words and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine people by a assailant aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
